What is Sonography/ Ultrasound?
Sonography commonly known as an ultrasound imaging, is an non-invasive medical imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of your body. Ultrasounds are commonly used by doctors to determine the structure of your internal organs and tissues and to check whether there is any abnormal growth. This non-invasive imaging technique is commonly used during your appointment to examine the male and female reproductive organs, and also to check whether your baby is healthy and growing normally. Here at Akruti IVF, we have state of the art specialised ultrasound machines like the 3D and 5D ultrasound machine that provide better image quality and more image detailing when compared to images formed by a standard 2D ultrasound machine
What is a 2D ultrasound?
A 2D ultrasound, also known as a two-dimensional ultrasound, is a type of imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce flat, black-and-white images of the internal structures of the body.
2D ultrasound is commonly used in obstetrics to monitor the development of a foetus during pregnancy and to diagnose the health of a baby. Unlike 3D or 5D ultrasounds, which provide more detailed, volume-based images, 2D ultrasounds provide a simpler, real-time view of internal structures in a single plane.
What is a 3D Ultrasound?
A 3D ultrasound is an advanced form of ultrasound imaging that creates three-dimensional images of the internal structures of the body by using sound waves. Unlike traditional 2D ultrasounds, which produces flat, 2D images, 3D ultrasound captures multiple 2D images from various angles and then combines them to create a 3D representation of the area being examined.
3D ultrasound is commonly used in obstetrics to provide detailed images of a foetus in the womb, allowing parents to see the baby’s face, hands, and other features in more detail, rather than just an outline as seen in 2D ultrasound scans.
What is a 5D Ultrasound?
Five dimensional (5D) ultrasound is a very advanced form of technology that refers to the combination of high-definition 3D imaging, dynamic (live) 4D imaging, and advanced software features that allow for more detailed visualization. 3D ultrasounds provide a three-dimensional image while a 4D ultrasound adds real time imagining (dimension of movement). In 5D ultrasounds, the image quality is enhanced with even more detail, high-definition (HD), and dynamic views. 5D ultrasound scans of a foetus in the womb are extremely clear, sharp, and lifelike. It can provide more realistic and precise visuals, often with greater clarity of skin texture and facial features. Another benefit of this kind of sonography is that it allows doctors to examine your baby’s internal structures. Patients can view their baby’s hands, feet, movement, and it also helps detect any malformations (like cleft lip, neural tube conditions, etc) at an earlier stage in pregnancy. A 5D ultrasound scan is advised between 24-30 weeks of pregnancy
